Established in 1872 and named based on the growing economic activity surrounding the cotton industry of the area at the time. Commerce is the second-largest city in Hunt County with a population of 9,090 according to the 2020 US Census. Home of Texas A&M University-Commerce, a four-year state University founded in 1894 and housing more than 12,000 students annually.
